CHATHAM HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS MOZART’S REQUIEM
The Chatham High School Choirs and Chamber Orchestra will present Mozart Requiem on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m. at The Chatham United Methodist Church. Special guest Dr. Vincent Rufino, Adjunct Professor of Music History at the College of St. Elizabeth and guest conductor at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, will give a pre-concert lecture. Admission to the event is free.
In addition to the CHS Choirs and Chamber Orchestra, members of the CHS Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and district music faculty will also be taking the stage for the performance. The performance will also feature commissioned artwork created by the CHS Art Department.
Mozart's Requiem, made possible by a grant from the Chatham Education Foundation, will be a historic moment for the CHS Music Department as a performance of this magnitude has never been done in the School District of the Chathams. Mozart Requiem, a choral masterpiece, was written as Mozart’s health was deteriorating in 1791. Approached by a mysterious stranger to compose the requiem, Mozart threw himself into the work. However, he died before its completion. This iconic piece is both stirring and emotional – a classical piece to be enjoyed by all.
